While someone is planning, others have already done it

07/08/2024

The issue of local energy supply is always a concern for every industrial park initiator. This has become even more acute after the latest attacks on our energy infrastructure and the ongoing power cuts across Ukraine.

Many industrial parks have begun to design or consider installing various types of generation facilities on their territory, both alternative and conventional. The demand for localised electricity supply systems has become even greater for many enterprises participating in industrial parks.

While others are planning, some initiators (future ones for now) have already done it. During my next business trip to the regions, namely to the Khmelnytsky region, I was amazed to see that very large-scale plants for processing and recycling waste from the agricultural and food industry were built on the basis of an old sugar factory. Waste from almost the entire Khmelnytsky and partly Ternopil regions is brought here. All of these plants are already generating unrealistic capacities. Just estimate the volumes they have generated:

  • electricity – 44 MW;
  • biogas – 1000 cubic metres per hour;
  • heat (enough to cover the heating needs of a neighbouring village of 1000 houses).

And this is not just a project, it is already working. And they are ready to share all of this for the needs of the future industrial park that is being designed nearby. Such a supply of power that does not depend on the country’s general grid will be an undoubted competitive advantage for future participants in this industrial park.

I hope that this example will be indicative for other industrial park organisers on the way to providing IP with facilities.
